Christmas 2024 in Brno has marked a historic milestone. According to TIC BRNO, it is the Brno most successful Christmas in the last nine years. For the first time, the city also held the title of European Capital of Christmas. Visitors and vendors expressed unprecedented satisfaction, consolidating the event as one of the most important tourist attractions in the region.

Brno most successful Christmas: a European city that shines

«This has been the most successful edition of the Christmas markets, thanks in part to Brno’s recognition as European Capital of Christmas 2024. Christmas in Brno has an impact that transcends borders,» says Kristýna Černá, the city’s Councillor for Tourism. Furthermore, under the management of TIC BRNO, the city has managed to transform Brno Christmas into a benchmark tourist product that has even inspired other cities in the country and abroad.

According to a survey conducted by the Focus agency, 74% of visitors would recommend Brno Christmas to their friends. In addition, the NPS (Net Promoter Score) reached an impressive 71, up from 51 in 2019. The number of visitors who travelled specifically to Brno to attend the event grew by 14%. These figures confirm the growing popularity of the markets and reinforce the reputation of the Brno most successful Christmas.

Tourism, gastronomy and culture in perfect harmony

TIC BRNO not only organises markets in iconic squares. It also promotes the city as a Christmas destination both within and outside the Czech Republic. This year, Brno welcomed 25 journalists and influencers from Germany, Poland, Austria and Hungary, generating massive media coverage. A clear example is an article by the German Press Agency, which reached more than 80 digital media outlets, with a total reach of 66 million readers.

On the other hand, the impact on social media was also notable: the Brno Christmas Facebook profile reached 3.4 million views, while Instagram reached 1.7 million. Additionally, the official website of the event, brnenskevanoce.cz, recorded 1.13 million visits.

An experience for all the senses

The 2024 edition featured 78 stalls, open for 32 days, and consequently raised 19.6 million Czech koruna. This surplus is reinvested in improving the event and in new projects that consolidate Brno Christmas as a festival of international quality.

The traders themselves highlighted the organisation and quality of the programme. Adam Vodička, co-owner of the well-known Turbomošt, said: “The market was completely full, even on weekdays, which was unusual in previous years. The musical and cultural programme, also designed for young audiences, greatly enhanced the experience.”

The courtyard of the Old Town Hall once again hosted the gourmet market, showcasing the excellence of local cuisine with the participation of nine establishments from Brno. “Presenting Brno’s cuisine during the winter season at such a prestigious festival is an added value that was previously lacking in the city,” said Ron Winkler of Eggo Break Feast Bistro.

Music, lights and art for everyone

More than 124 concerts and shows filled Freedom Square, with artists such as Michal Hrůza, Hana Holišová, Sebastian, P/\ST, Pam Rabbit, NobodyListen and Aiko, who attracted a particularly young audience. Cabbage Market Square (Zelný trh) also offered a rich cultural programme with activities for the whole family.

The light and art installations were another major attraction. Twelve installations illuminated squares, streets and cultural spaces, including the famous figure of the Brno Dragon in its red and white jumper, which won first prize in the Innovative Marketing Communication category of the Czech Grand Prix for Tourism 2024.

Collaboration with local artists, architects and designers brought an authentic and contemporary feel to the market. “Christmas in Brno has become a cultural and aesthetic experience that connects with all ages,” says Janica Šipulová, architect at the Consequence Forma studio.

An event with international appeal

Thanks to the joint efforts of TIC BRNO and its partners, Christmas in Brno has established itself as a strong brand on the European festival calendar. It attracts visitors not only from the Czech Republic, but also from neighbouring countries such as Germany, Poland, Austria and Hungary. This positions Brno as a top Christmas destination.

With a combination of music, lights, gastronomy and culture, Brno Christmas 2024 has shown that a Christmas market can be much more than just shopping. It is an experience that celebrates the city, its people and its festive spirit.
