SOLIDARITOWN is a European project within the framework of the European initiative CERV (Citizenship, Equality, Rights and Values) and will receive a contribution of 169,160 euros from the European Union. Through this project, Medina de Rioseco will cooperate with other organisations such as the Christmas Cities Network Association, the City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz, the City Council of Genoa (Italy), the National Polytechnic University of Lviv (Ukraine), the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Krsko (Slovenia), the City Council of Bucharest (Romania), the City Council of Bucharest (Romania) and the City Council of Bucharest (Romania), the Municipality of Bucharest (Romania), the association Se Poate (Romania), the Municipality of Gorlice (Poland), the Autokreakja Foundation (Poland), the Municipality of Seia (Portugal), the association Educpro (Portugal), the Municipality of Leuven (Belgium) and the association Educshakers (Belgium).

Christmas Cities Network, organisers of the «European Capital and City of Christmas Awards«, has been the beneficiary of the European project CERV SOLIDARITOWN, a network of cities that will promote European cultural diversity and the value of solidarity, especially through the different Christmas traditions in Europe and with a special focus on solidarity in the face of current conflicts such as the war in Ukraine.

The project, which has been supported since its inception by the Christmas Cities Network association, aims to establish an itinerary of international conferences, which will take place in each of the partner cities, in which young people from all over Europe will discuss the civic commitment and European values behind the celebration of Christmas. Especially that of solidarity and unity between different communities, promoting the SDGs across the continent and providing aid to those affected by the war in Ukraine and other conflicts in Europe and the rest of the world. In this sense, the project aims not only to celebrate diversity and solidarity during the Christmas season but also to address current challenges in Europe, such as the war in Ukraine, by encouraging collaboration between cities and the active participation of citizens in promoting peace, justice and social inclusion.

This project will be fully funded by the European Union and represents for the association a further recognition of its work in the field of spreading solidarity and Christmas. On this occasion, linked to solidarity in Europe.
